Burt James McIlnay, Sr., formerly of Goodland, passed away July 6, 2018 at Honor Health Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, after an 11 month battle with lung cancer.
On April 18, 1940, Burt was born on the family farm in Sheridan County, Kansas, parents were Leland and Celeste (Schwebach) McIlnay. They moved to Colby when he was 5 years old and he always loved to tell his kids and grandkids that he helped with the move by driving the tractor.
Burt graduated from Colby High School in 1959. He served with the Kansas Highway Patrol from 1961-1972 and became a Kansas Real Estate agent and built homes while on the Patrol. Burt became an auctioneer and ran his own auction company in Goodland. He moved to Colorado in 1984, where he continued to sell real estate until 1990. He spent many years selling cars, even recently selling cars in the Phoenix area up until a week before his death.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Carol.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy (Rice) McIlnay; 6 children: Brenda Jackson of Texas, Todd and Heather McIlnay of Colorado, Kristi and Ryan Johnson of Colorado, Travis and Jennifer McIlnay of Utah, Rachael and Jesse Fish of Colorado, and BJ and Tami McIlnay of Arizona; siblings David, Joe and Sheryl McIlnay, Leann Rehmer, Kathleen and Jim Tubbs, and Tracy Perkins; 18 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral Service will be Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street in Goodland, interment will follow at the Goodland Cemetery.
