Mary E. (Ellison) Hayden

Mary E. Hayden, 98 of Goodland passed away Monday, November 13, 2017 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center.  She was born January 25, 1919, in Superior, Nebraska, to Ernest and Mabel Ellison.  She grew up in Nebraska until the age of 10, they then moved to Sherman County where she attended country school in grade school, went to Junior High in Edson, and went to High School at Sherman Community High School.  She was in the first graduating class of Sherman County High School.  On December 23, 1939 she married Leo B. Hayden in McCook, Nebraska.  She was a resident of Sherman County for 88 years.  Mary was a farm wife and homemaker and enjoyed playing cards, horse races, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and following each of their sports.  Mary was a member of the United Methodist Church, EHU and the Birthday Girls. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; grandsons, Marsh and Matthew Thompson; great-grandson, Elijah Joseph Thompson; brothers, Harold, George, Dale, Dean and Robert; sister, Laura Curry.

She is survived by her children, Patty (Mac) Thompson of Goodland, KS; John Leo (Judy) Hayden of Goodland, KS; grandchildren, Mitch (Amber) Thompson of Waco, TX; Nathan (Anna) Thompson of Fayetteville, AR; Dax (Michelle) Hayden of Windsor, CO; Arin (Chris) Thomas of Windsor, CO; Seth (Hilary) Hayden of Windsor, CO; great-grandchildren Mary Conley, Caroline McDill Thompson, Nevaeh Kay Thompson, Natalie Hayden Thompson, Brin Ellison Hayden, Madeline Joyce Hayden, Olivia Jaelyn Thomas, Avelyn Grace Thomas, Vivian Anne Thomas, Sophia James Hayden and Paige Madison Hayden; and several nieces and nephews. 

Visitation is 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. MT, Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street, Goodland.  Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. MT, Friday, November 17, 2017 at the Calvary Gospel Church, 402 College Street in Goodland with interment in the Goodland Cemetery.  Memorials will be designated to the Goodland V.F.W.
