Alfred Leon "Lon" Kerr

Alfred Leon "Lon" Kerr Sr. was born on September 1,1940 to Wylie Monroe and Odessa Mattie (Ockerman) Kerr in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He passed away on September 19, 2026 at the Goodland Regional Medical Center in Goodland, KS. Lon grew up in Walsh, Colorado and graduated from Walsh High School. On July 4,1959 he joined the United States Marines and was stationed at Camp Pendleton in California. After 2 years he was transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves. On December 5,1961 he married Carolyn D'ann Brown of Vilas, Colorado. Born to this union were their boys Alfred Leon “Lonnie” Jr. in 1962, Aaron in 1964 and Kenneth in 1972.

Lon and Carolyn lived in Vilas and farmed south of there. He was proud to be part of the American Agricultural Movement from its inception. In 1983 Lon and Carolyn purchased the Montgomery Ward Catalog store in Goodland, Kansas. After Montgomery Ward was closed, Lon worked for the City of Goodland's power plant and a local Natural Gas producer. He was a member of the American Legion Post 117 in Goodland where he proudly served as Vice Commander and Commander.

Lon is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn of 63 years; his parents; and sister Patsy Kerr.

He is survived by his three sons, Lonnie of Goodland, KS, Aaron (Brenda) of Springfield, CO and Kenneth of Calhan, CO. Grandson Brian Kerr of Colorado Springs, CO; granddaughter Katie (Scott) Allen of FT. Scott, KS; great grandkids Chase Kerr, Lila Joy Kerr and Ethan Allen and Aubrey Allen and sister-in-law Kathy Maestas.

Funeral service will be Saturday, September 26, 2026 at 11 a.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street, Goodland. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. MT at the funeral home prior to the service. Interment will be Wednesday, September 30, 2026 at 11 a.m. MT at Vilas Cemetery, Vilas, Colorado.
