Alvin Lewis Rust

Alvin Lewis Rust, age 84, passed away October 12,2016, at Julia Temple Health Care Center in Englewood, Colorado where he had been a patient for 1 week. Alvin was born June 29, 1932 in Goodland to John and Ruth Rust. He attended school in Goodland, graduating with the class of 1950. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

Alvin married Betty Smith at the Lutheran Church in Goodland on March 17, 1956.  He worked for USD 352 for 35 years as a janitor and more recently enjoyed being a Walmart greeter. Alvin was a member of the VFW Post 1133. He enjoyed watching Goodland High School sports, especially football and basketball games. Some of his favorite past times were watching John Wayne western movies, Gun Smoke, Bonanza, and he also enjoyed watching the “The Voice”.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Darrell and brother Clarence Rust. He is survived by his son Gary D. Rust of Salina, Kansas, his daughter Sheryl A. Millam and grandsons Cory and Chris of Goodland, his brother Ernest Rust of Dodge City, and his sister Linda Thornbrugh of Dallas, Texas, and 6 grand children.

Funeral service will be Monday Oct. 17, 2016, at 2 p.m. mountain time, with Dr. Kent Myron Scott officiating at Bateman Funeral Home at 211 E. 11th with burial to follow in the Goodland Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday at the funeral home from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. and prior to the service. Memorials will be determined by the family later and may be sent to Bateman Funeral Home,, P.O.
