Betty Lou Wright, age 94, of Goodland passed away March 2, 2025 at Goodland Regional Medical Center.
Betty was born May 31, 1930 to Bert and Nettie (Smalley) Elliott, she grew up and went to school in Edson and graduated in 1948. On January 20, 1949 she married Harold D. Wright in Goodland. The couple lived north of Kanorado on a farm where they raised their 3 daughters: Dora, Nancy and Lois.
Betty worked at JC Pennys right out of high school, on the farm she drove a truck hauling wheat and sugar beets during harvest and worked at the State of Kansas Port of Entry. They sold their farm and moved to Arvada, Colorado in 1978 and she worked at Wheatridge Lanes as a cook, and sold Avon in her spare time. They moved back to Goodland in 1990 and Betty worked at the Butterfly Cafe for 20 plus years. She was a member of the EHU Grant Homemakers, leader for Grant Booster 4-H Club, her girls softball coach for three years, she enjoyed helping neighbors, taking her girls to town for piano and swimming lessons and always looked forward to the Elliott family reunion at Gulick Park. She was an avid bowler for 45 years and loved spending time with her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her daughters Dora Heupel of Russell, KS and Lois Morris of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, David (Sandy) Corke of Boyington, FL, Eric Corke of Goodland, KS, Brad (Tracie) Rohr of Aurora, CO, Bruce Rohr of Lawrence, KS, Marcy Goetz-Than (Harry) of Thornton, CO; great grandchildren, William, Ashley and Hailey Rohr, Talon and Danika Corke, Teagan Vaughn, Tycia and Tabbiath Zertuche, Sophia, Dylan and Zadie Than; one great great granddaughter Lilath; along with many more family members and friends.
Preceding her in death are her husband Harold; daughter Nancy Wright; granddaughter Lisa Lyn Goetz; great grandson Christopher Rohr; son-in-law Norman Heupel; brothers Elmer, Leonard, Edgar, Charles, Eugene, Henry and John; and 2 sisters, Thelma Felzien and Reha Elliott.
Funeral service will be Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street in Goodland. Interment following the service at the Kanorado Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service at Bateman Funeral Home from 9 to 10:30 a.m. MT.
