Dixie Anne (Chain) Schemm

Dixie Anne (Chain) Schemm age 87 of Sharon Springs, passed away Sunday, March 16th, 2025. Dixie was born December 13th, 1937 to Ralph and Mamie Chain of Haven, KS. Her journey on this earth was marked by unwavering faith in God, a love of her family and life on the farm. Dixie grew up on a farm and was involved with 4-H. She graduated from Haven High School and went on to Bethany College where she earned a Bachelor degree in Commercial Arts. She met the love of her life Vernon Schemm at Bethany and they were married in 1960. She would always say she could never find a fault in him. Dixie and Vernon settled in Wallace County where they farmed and ran cattle. They raised their 4 children on the same family farm Vernon had spent the majority of his life. Dixie had a love for plants and became a master gardener through K-State Horticulture. She served the community through gardening classes, newspaper articles and ran a greenhouse business for eleven years. She was a wealth of knowledge for many people with gardening questions and loved to talk about gardening with anyone. She served as a 4-H leader in the community for many years. Dixie was a member of Risen King Community Church and served alongside Vernon as greeters and was always happy to take on many tasks behind the scenes.

Dixie is preceded in death by her husband Vernon, her parents (Ralph and Mamie), sisters, (Chlodene and Virginia), brother (Warren) and grandson (Luke). She is survived by sons Steve (Michelle) of Wallace, KS and David (Lisa) of Sharon Springs, KS; daughters Diane (Mike) Kuykendall of Weskan, KS and Mary (Paul) Meyer of Auburn, KS; 12 grandchildren: Sarah (Taylor) Prescott of Conway, AR; Matt (Elena) Kuykendall of Tel Aviv, Israel; Lauren Kuykendall of Memphis, TN; Amanda (Kileab) Ammons of Auburn, KS; Clay Schemm of Sharon Springs, KS; Colton (Natalie) Meyer of Topeka, KS; Greg (Laramie) Kuykendall of Phoenix, AZ; Chase Meyer of Topeka, KS; Caleb Schemm of Goodland, KS; Zach (Paige) Schemm of Sterling, KS; Jadon Schemm of Sterling, KS; Mykah Schemm of Wallace, KS; 7 great grandchildren, Ava Prescott, Josie Prescott, Ellie Prescott, Arabella Ammons, Kaida Ammons, Kirrian Meyer, Moriah Kuykendall.
