Martha “Marti” Tallman Scott, 85, born on March 21,1941, in Buffalo, NY, passed away surrounded by her loving family Saturday, October 17, 2026, at Sunrise Senior Living, in Overland Park, Kansas.
Marti was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Larry Scott, and parents Marcella Funk and Buell Tallman.
Marti is survived by her sons Lars (wife Tara) and Lance (wife Mindy); her sister Lynda (Bob) Hassett; her grandchildren Landon, Marissa, Aubrey and Ashley; and her great-grandson Linkon.
Marti grew up in Buffalo, NY, graduated from Amherst Central High School and State University College of Education at Potsdam. She took her first teaching job in Colorado Springs, CO, where she met Larry who served in the US Army stationed at Fort Carson, CO. Marti and Larry were married July 11, 1964, in Snyder, NY. They lived in Goodland, Kansas, for 40 years where they put down deep roots and built a life surrounded by a tight-knit community. While in Goodland Marti taught 4th grade for 3 years before starting a family, then taught pre-school, before starting a Shaklee business. The Shaklee business gave her and her family the opportunity to travel the world, build closer relationships with distant relatives and make new friends.
Marti and Larry retired to Sun Lakes, AZ, where she taught water aerobics class to over 50 people weekly. In 2018, they moved from Sun Lakes to the Kansas City area to be closer to family.
Marti always enjoyed going out to dances, parties, dinners or just out to be with friends. Anyone who knew Larry and Marti would agree that they could “cut a rug” on the dance floor. Marti loved playing cards, especially bridge, reading books and watching the Wildcats. She was a devoted Christian, active in the United Methodist churches in Goodland, Sun Lakes and the Kansas City area. She was always willing to help anyone that needed it.
Marti was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease when she was 62 and worked to help may others who were diagnosed with the disease. She sought out progressive treatments to minimize the effects, starting at the Muhammad Ali Clinic in Phoenix to Deep Brain Stimulation Surgery in Kansas City. The last few years of her life Marti fought the effects of Parkinson’s, including speech, mobility and memory loss. In lieu of flowers and in remembrance of Marti donations may be given to The Muhammad Ali Parkinson’s Center at Barrow Neurological Institute at https://giveto.supportbarrow.org/mapc
A graveside service will be scheduled at a later date. Information and condolences www.batemanfuneral.com
