Mary E. Blystone

Mary E. Blystone, age 93, of Goodland passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Topside Manor in Goodland.  Mary was born May 3, 1930 on the family farm south of Kanorado, KS, to Emmett L. and Dorothy A. (Freeman) Blystone. She was the second of four daughters born to the couple. She was the granddaughter of Frank L. and Mary (Schlosser) Blystone and Byron E. and Harriet (Alward) Freeman.

Mary was a lifelong Sherman County resident, attending school in Kanorado. After graduation she attended business college in Denver, CO. She then returned to the farm and helped her parents. Her favorite farm chores were taking care of the small animals and gardening. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Kanorado. She always made sure the church had fresh flowers for Sunday service. Mary enjoyed playing the piano or organ as needed, as well as helping with vacation bible school.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, sisters Edna Golembski and Joyce Blystone.  She is survived by her sister Ruth I. Nichols, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street, Goodland. Interment will follow the service at the Kanorado Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, August 18, 2023 from 4 to 6 p.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home.
