Terri Ann Anderson, of Goodland, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Monday, August 4, 2025, at Cheyenne County Village in St. Francis, Kansas. In 2022, Terri was diagnosed with acute myelomonocytic leukemia (AMML), a rare form of leukemia, and bravely battled the disease for more than two years. She was 68. Terri was born May 2, 1957, in Oberlin, Kansas, to Ora R. “Bud” and Myrna (Railsback) Kelley. She grew up in Oberlin, where her love and passion for horses began. Terri graduated from Decatur Community High School (Oberlin) in 1975 and was active in 4-H in the ‘Stick-To-It’ Club, played the flute in the band, and was chosen to be in the Homecoming court. She attended Kansas State University in Manhattan and returned home to marry and start a family.
Terri began her professional life creating stained glass windows for residential and commercial spaces while working at the Woodshed in Oberlin. Her beautiful stained-glass creations still grace the windows of Lund Covenant Church and other locations. In 1989, Terri joined the United States Postal Service, and she served in various roles—including mail carrier, postal clerk, and Postmaster in Charge—in Oberlin, Colby, Goodland, and surrounding areas. Terri retired in 2014 after 25 years of service. Following her retirement, Terri continued serving her community as a “Lunch Lady” at North Elementary School and a travel counselor at the Sherman County Travel Center.
In 2016, Terri fulfilled a lifelong dream by opening the SlideOnInn Horse Hotel where she welcomed over a thousand guests over the years. For some, she was a lifesaver and helped those who broke down with their horses and needed a place to stay. For many riders, she was one of their regular stops along the way. Nonetheless, Terri was a terrific hostess to those who spent long hours on the road with their horses. She remained dedicated to her dream, managing bookings up until her very final days. Terri was also a certified Equine Sports Massage and Rehabilitation Therapist and known by many at the reining shows where she was “encouraging to all the other horse riders.” She was a proud member of the American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA), American Paint Horse Association (APHA), and National Reining Horse Association (NRHA). Terri was also featured by K-State Research and Extension News and various publications.
Terri lived a full life and will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a collector, decorator, and gardener. She restored and beautifully decorated houses with her stained glass and antique glass collections. When the grandchildren arrived for Christmas, the house glistened with magic and lights inside and out, and each piece of her glass was perfectly hand placed. The family gathered around her one-of-a-kind tablescapes and enjoyed Grandma Terri’s homemade rolls and Russian cream. Her yellow house on Main Street remains well-known in the community for Terri’s big, beautiful hydrangeas that she also propagated and mailed to friends.
Terri is survived by her husband, Eddie Anderson, of Goodland; her children, Amos (Toni Marie) Alstrom of Ashland, NE, and Adriel (Felix Ferreira) Alstrom of New York City, NY; her stepchildren, Kandis (Travis) Trieb of Kearney, MO, and Kristin (Scott) Kennedy of Stillwater, KS; her brother, Raymond Kelley of McCook, NE; her sister, Vicki Kelley-Lignitz of Topeka, KS; ten amazing grandchildren: Austyn (Joseyl) Alstrom, Bryclin Alstrom, Edyn Alstrom, Vyvian Alstrom, Soren Ferreira, Tessa Trieb, Tucker Trieb, Skylar Kennedy, Aspyn Kennedy, and Raegyn Kennedy; and mother-in-law, Ruby Anderson. Further survived by her two horses, Sunday and Buzz, and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Ronald Kelley; sister-in-law, Viola Kelley; her nephew, Jeremy Lignitz; and her father-in-law, Mac Anderson.
Terri and her family would also like to highlight and express their sincerest gratitude to Terri’s stem cell donor, and all the heroes who donate blood and platelets, which are crucial for so many battling against cancer and other illnesses.
