Walter "Junior" Earl Darnell, Jr.

Walter “Junior” Earl Darnell, Jr., 78, of Goodland passed away Monday, January 6, 2020 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Junior was born January 20, 1941 to Walter Earl, Sr. and Lyda Mae (McClaskey) Darnell in Las Animas, Colorado.  Junior grew up and attended school in Las Animas.  He moved to Goodland in 2011.

Junior worked as a truck driver for many years.  He enjoyed playing music and spending time with his family and friends.

Preceding him in death are his grandparents and parents; sisters, Thelma Darnell, Ruby Carpenter, Hazel Wilson and Zella Mae “Betty” Potter.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Elizabeth Riley of Goodland,KS; daughter, Carrie McPhail of Salina, KS; grandsons, Dustin (Angela) McPhail and Seth McPhail; great-grandson, Elliot McPhail; brothers, Ed of Lakin, KS, Jim (Donna) of Syracuse, KS, Robert (Ruth) of Las Animas, CO, Fred (Roxana) of Las Animas, CO; many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial service will be Saturday, January 18, 2020 at 2 p.m. MT at Bateman Funeral Home, 211 East 11th Street in Goodland.
