Clifford Frederick Like

Clifford Frederick Like, Sr., 96, passed away Wednesday, July 4, 2018, at Grace Manor Care Center in Burlington, Colorado.  

Clifford was born February 8, 1922, in Herndon, Kansas to Ora F and Anna (Portschy) Like.  In 1937, the family moved to a farm north of Burlington Colorado.  Clifford attended Burlington High School and graduated in 1940.  He moved to Idalia, Colorado in 1945 after purchasing a small farm southeast of Idalia.  

Clifford married Rulen Williams from Hamilton, Alabama on June 13, 1947.  From this union, five children were born; Mary Ann, Clifford Jr., Barbara, Paul and Dorothy.

In 1951, he purchased another farm south of Idalia that became known as the family home.  Farming was his life long ambition.  He would work for other farmers in the area to help subsidize the farm income.  He also would tell of helping to build the road and bridge on Hwy 385 and setting REA poles for YW Electric.  He drove a bus for Idalia School for a few years and was employed as the manager of Idalia Coop Elevator upon opening until he retired in 1979.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Rulen; daughter, Mary Ann Tubbs; grandson, Bryan Like; sister and brother in law, Evelyn & Lloyd Flick; sister in law and brother in law, Zula & Edward Pfeiler.

He is survived by sons, Clifford Like Jr., of Fountain, CO; Paul and Patricia Like of Idalia, CO; daughters, Barbara Like of Idalia, CO; Dorothy and John Whitmire of Iliff, CO; seven grandchildren; Cody, Demetra, Felica, Crystal, Brent, Tamara and Angela; fifteen great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Remembrance will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at Idalia Homestead Memorial Building, 9550 CR Dd, Idalia, CO  80735
