Elmira M. David, age 91, of Goodland passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at Hays Medical Center in Hays.
Elmira was born January 6, 1931 to Elmer “Skeet” and Alha (Patterson) Underwood in Bird City, KS. Elmira grew up and graduated high school from Bird City High School. On August 17, 1948 she married Don David in Reno, Nevada. To this union Michael D. and Patricia C. were born.
Elmira was a member of the United Methodist Church, The Elks of Goodland and the Women’s VFW Auxiliary of Goodland. She worked in retail for many years at Schneiders Clothing and Collage Ltd in Goodland and Hoovers Clothing Store when they lived in Garden City. Many customers requested her unique skill and eye for fashion to assist them in picking out their perfect outfit, which she dearly loved. She enjoyed yard work, flowers, reading, house decorating, playing the organ for her family, and going to dances with Don over the years. One of her proudest moments was piloting a plane solo at the age of 13, a rare accomplishment at the time. She looked forward to her daily Coffee Club at the Airport Café and Walmart to catch up with all her friends and brag about how proud she was of all her grandkids and great grandkids. Recently, Elmira lived on her own with the help of her dear friends Janie Vasquez, Marie Sandoval and Danielle Frink.
Elmira is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and granddaughter, Shannan David.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Cathy) David of Benkleman, NE; daughter, Patricia (Phil) Sandelin of WaKeeney, KS; grandchildren, Brigitte (Doug) Holtmeier, Stefani David, Broc (Lerae) Sandelin, Kendall David and Sage (Kyle) Level; greatgrandchildren, Blake (Miranda) Holtmeier, Brady (Shelbee) Holtmeier, Hayden (Sarah) Pollman and Kamdyn Reynolds; and countless other family and friends.
