Longtime Goodland resident, Lela M. Davisson, age 92, passed away Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Topside Manor. She was born November 15, 1928 in Yuma County, Colorado the daughter of Earl and Clara Elizabeth (Albertson) Smith. Lela grew up in Yuma County, and attended school at Happy Hollow Country School, in Kit Carson County Colorado. On November 25, 1948 she married William Edward Davisson in Goodland, Kansas after he returned from Germany where he was a prisoner of war, in WWII. Together they had five children: Clara, George, Wilma, Leland and Joann. They lived and worked in Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado, and moved to Goodland in 1966. Lela was a farm wife, spending her time milking cows, tending chickens, and helping her husband around the farm. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, and teaching three generations of her family how to play cards. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends.
Lela was preceded in death by her husband, William; young daughter, Wilma; sons, Leland and George; and brothers, Clarence and Verlin.
She is survived by her daughters, Clara Mae (Paul) Sprenkle of McCook, NE and Jo (John) Hinger of Goodland, KS; 9 grandchildren: Denzel Payton; Jeremy (Lindsay) Davisson; Justin (Vanessa) Davisson; Jeff Sprenkle; Tammy Jo (George) Scheeman; Dustin (Amber) Davisson; David Lee (Jennifer) Davisson; Shera (Esteban) Ortiz; Shawna (Aaron) Stoney; M’Lynn (Josh) Hinger; 20 great grandchildren; many great-great grandchildren and other family and friends.
